Protea cynaroides, commonly known as the King Protea, is a striking and iconic flowering plant native to South Africa. This magnificent evergreen shrub is renowned for its large, globe-shaped flower heads, which can measure up to 12 inches in diameter. These flower heads are composed of a dense cluster of unique, intricately layered bracts in shades of pink, crimson, or white, surrounding a central, dome-like structure filled with tiny individual flowers. The King Protea's blossoms are not only visually stunning but are also significant cultural symbols in South Africa, representing change and transformation. This plant thrives in well-draining, sandy soils and is well-adapted to its native Mediterranean climate, marked by dry summers and wet winters. It is a prized ornamental plant in gardens and floral arrangements worldwide and is celebrated for its exquisite beauty, making it a standout addition to both garden landscapes and the cut flower industry.  Zones 8-11

Germination

Germinating Protea cynaroides seeds can be a rewarding process. Start by soaking the seeds in a bowl of hot (but not boiling) water for 24 hours to help break their hard outer seed coat. After soaking, plant the seeds in a well-draining mix that contains equal parts of sand and peat moss. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil, and gently press them down. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Cover the container with a clear plastic lid or plastic wrap to create a humid microclimate, as Protea seeds require high humidity for successful germination. Place the container in a warm and bright location with indirect sunlight. Germination can be slow and erratic, and it may take several weeks to months before you see any signs of growth. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, carefully transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden. Protea cynaroides is a unique and highly prized plant, and while its germination process can be challenging, the spectacular blooms it produces are well worth the effort.

Fun toy
Color: Orange
Well made. The puppies love it, BUT it is too hard for them at an early age ( 2 1/2 months. They ended up grabbing the rope. As they got 5-6 months they were fine. Make another model 1 inch smaller and half as hard Belgian Malinois & Doberman.

Durable & great deal
Color: Orange and Yellow
My foster German Shepherd has a jaw that's locked and loaded but love these cause I can play tug of war or fling it way across the yard. He's chewed or busted every ball he's received except these. I'm loving them. Very durable, bounces too really well and I can find it easily with the colors.

Small balls and came apart
Color: Orange and Yellow
My dog loves them; these are my first set of this type of toy. Good quality materials, but the knot in the rope came undone and the ball came off in 3days. I had someone fix and re-tie and it has held up so far. The next set I’ll get in a larger size, they’re a tad small for my dog’s mouth.
