Ceramic Plant Rings

Porous ceramic rings used to anchor stem plant cuttings at the substrate surface — the cleanest and most effective method for planting and replanting stem plants without disturbing the substrate.

Anchors Stem Plants Cleanly Porous Ceramic — Inert & Safe No Substrate Disturbance Reusable Indefinitely Accumulates Beneficial Bacteria Works with All Stem Plants

Ceramic Plant Rings are small, porous ceramic rings used to secure stem plant cuttings at the substrate surface — providing a stable anchor that holds plants upright without the need to push stems into the substrate, disturb established root systems, or use anything that degrades over time. In planted shrimp tanks, stem plant maintenance — trimming and replanting cut stems — is one of the most disruptive regular maintenance tasks, stirring substrate, uprooting neighbouring plants, and releasing trapped debris into the water column. Ceramic rings eliminate the substrate disturbance entirely: a cutting is inserted through the ring and both are lowered to the substrate surface, where the ceramic weight holds the stem in position while roots develop and anchor the plant naturally. The porous ceramic is completely inert, does not affect water chemistry, and develops a surface coating of beneficial bacteria over time that contributes to the biological filtration capacity of the tank. Reusable indefinitely — remove a cutting once it has rooted, reuse the ring for the next planting cycle.

Function & Benefits

Anchor stem plant cuttings without substrate disturbance — insert a trimmed stem cutting through the ring and lower both to the substrate surface. The ceramic weight holds the cutting upright and in position while it develops roots — no pushing into substrate, no disturbing established root systems nearby, no debris cloud from substrate agitation. For tanks with established foreground carpets or fine substrate that distributes easily, this benefit is significant. Porous ceramic is completely inert — no water chemistry impact — unglazed ceramic is chemically neutral in aquarium use and does not leach anything into the water column. It is safe for all freshwater livestock including sensitive Caridina shrimp in soft, acidic water where any leaching material would be immediately apparent in parameter testing. The rings can be boiled to clean between uses without any risk of contamination. Porous surface accumulates beneficial bacteria over time — the micro-porous surface of unglazed ceramic provides a very high surface area relative to the ring's volume — the same property that makes ceramic rings effective biological filter media. Rings that have been in the tank for several weeks accumulate a bacterial colony that contributes to the biological filtration load, making them a net positive rather than neutral addition to the tank ecosystem. Reusable indefinitely — remove once rooted, reuse for next cutting — once a stem plant has developed sufficient roots to hold itself in position — typically two to four weeks — the ceramic ring can be carefully removed and set aside for the next trimming cycle. A set of rings used across multiple trimming cycles becomes a permanent part of the stem plant maintenance toolkit rather than a consumable. Boil between uses if concerned about cross-contamination between tank setups. Works with all stem plants in the catalog — compatible with Pennywort, Water Sprite, Anacharis Najas, Guppy Grass, Willow Hygro, Bacopa varieties, and any other stem plant that is planted as individual cuttings at the substrate surface. Works equally well for weighted-float use with plants like Anacharis Najas that are sometimes kept as mid-water tangles — the ring adds enough weight to hold a loose stem bundle at a specific depth without full substrate planting.

Setup & Use

1Trim stem plant cutting and strip lower leaves — cut the stem plant at the desired length — typically 10–15cm — and strip leaves from the bottom 3–4cm of the cutting. The bare stem section is what sits inside and below the ring; the leafy portion extends upward above it.
2Thread the bare stem end through the ring — insert the stripped end of the stem through the ceramic ring so the ring rests at the base of the leafy section and the bare stem hangs below it. The ring should sit snugly against the lowest remaining leaves rather than sliding freely up and down the stem.
3Lower to the substrate surface in the desired position — place the ring-and-stem unit on the substrate surface at the intended planting position. The ceramic weight holds the ring flat and the stem upright. Position with tweezers for precision in tightly planted areas without disturbing adjacent plants or carpet.
4Remove ring once roots are established — after two to four weeks roots will have developed sufficiently to hold the plant without the ring. Carefully slide the ring off the now-rooted stem by lifting slightly and rotating — the new root system is delicate at this stage and rough removal may disturb the plant. Set the ring aside for reuse.
💡 Bonus Tip

Ceramic plant rings used during an initial tank setup — before substrate is established and before any livestock is introduced — produce the cleanest and most debris-free replanting experience possible. Plant the full layout using rings, allow two to three weeks for initial rooting, then remove the rings before introducing shrimp and other livestock. The substrate remains undisturbed throughout the establishment period and the water stays clear during the sensitive initial cycling phase when any debris release is most problematic.

Solid coffee, good intro to Lavazza
Flavor Name: Espresso, Size: 35.2 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I've used this and it's genuinely good coffee. The 100% Arabica beans produce a smooth, clean cup with a nice aroma and solid crema. No bitterness, easy to drink and works well in both espresso and drip. That said, if you're deciding between this and the Lavazza Barista Gran Crema or Qualita Oro, I'd go with those every time. The flavor is richer, the crema is thicker and the overall experience is just a step above. This one is still a solid 4.5 in my book, rounding up to 5, but the Gran Crema and Oro are my personal go to. If you're new to Lavazza this is a great starting point. You won't be disappointed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great Coffee, but Price Fluctuates a Lot
Flavor Name: Espresso, Size: 35.2 Ounce (Pack of 1)
The Lavazza Espresso whole bean coffee is very good quality. The medium roast is smooth, balanced, and works well for espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos. Beans grind evenly and produce a nice crema. My only issue is the price instability. Sometimes it’s around $17, which is an excellent value, but other times it jumps to $26, which feels high for the same product. Because of this, it’s best to watch the price and buy when it drops. Overall, great coffee with consistent flavor — just keep an eye on pricing before purchasing.

My everyday espresso bean — fresh-ground changes everything
Flavor Name: Espresso, Size: 35.2 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I've gone through more bags of this than I can count — it's become my default espresso bean and I don't see that changing. I grind it fresh for espresso and the difference vs. pre-ground is immediately noticeable — more crema, better aroma, cleaner taste. If you're still buying pre-ground, this is a good reason to stop. Flavor-wise it's smooth and approachable — medium roast means no harsh bitterness, no aggressive dark-roast smokiness. Just clean, well-balanced espresso. The 100% Arabica shows; it doesn't have that robusta edginess you get in cheaper blends. The 2.2lb bag is good value compared to buying smaller bags or anything from a specialty roaster. For everyday home espresso, the price-to-quality ratio is hard to beat. Only mild gripe: the bag isn't the most resealable after the first open — I transfer mine to an airtight container. Minor inconvenience for a bean this good.

New Favorite Coffee
Flavor Name: Espresso, Size: 35.2 Ounce (Pack of 1), Flavor Name: Espresso, Size: 35.2 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Let me start out by saying I am a coffee fiend. I drink it all hours of the night and day and I've tried just about every brand you can think of. I took a chance ordering this and I'm so glad I did! Reading the other reviews helped me so I hope this helps someone else, too. No one is paying me for my opinion, I'm not getting a single thing for writing this except the satisfaction of reporting on a quality product. Not only is it a good price for how much you get, (09/25- $22 for 35.2 oz) but this is some of the smoothest coffee I've ever tasted. The beans are so shiny and just pretty. They're not all dried out and dull and dessicated looking like some coffees... The beans smell so good in the bag and even better once I've ground them. They grind up very quickly and easily too. There's no bitter aftertaste. Just pure, delightful, delicious coffee. I got the 5/10 espresso, and it's perfect for me. it's just strong enough. I like medium-strong roasts, so if you prefer darker or lighter roasts they have plenty of other options. I use both a drip coffee pot and a French press and this works beautifully in both. The crema in the French press is gorgeous. It's so far above other brands- even Seattle's best and eight o clock and Cameron's, which I thought I really liked... They don't hold a candle to this. I can't wait to try the other flavors.

Good Beans for Home Espresso
Flavor Name: Espresso, Size: 35.2 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I’ve been using these beans daily for about two weeks in my espresso machine, and they’ve been really consistent. The flavor is smooth and easy to drink, with a mild nutty note and low acidity. It’s not overly bitter, which I personally like for everyday coffee. One thing I noticed — you do need to dial in the grind a bit to get the best crema, but once you do, it comes out pretty nice. On the downside, the aroma and intensity are a little on the lighter side. If you’re into strong, bold espresso, this might not hit that mark. Overall, this is a great everyday option — especially if you want something smooth and reliable without too much bitterness. Good value for the size too.
