Description

sedum rubrotinctum jelly bean succulent Sedum rubrotinctumThe Jelly Bean Plant, a hybrid species of Sedum, looks exactly as it sounds tiny trails of succulent, jelly bean shaped leaves. It grows vertically until the stems get too heavy, at which point they'll grow slightly more sideways, spreading their jelly bean y goodness. These jelly beans look like a mix of flavours, though, as they are a bright lime green towards the stem and a strawberry red towards the tips. Inspiration for a new flavour of sweetie?

The Jelly Bean Plant, a hybrid species of Sedum, looks exactly as it sounds - tiny trails of succulent, jelly-bean-shaped leaves. It grows vertically until the stems get too heavy, at which point they'll grow slightly more sideways, spreading their jelly-bean-y goodness. These jelly beans look like a mix of flavours, though, as they are a bright lime green towards the stem and a strawberry red towards the tips. Inspiration for a new flavour of sweetie? Despite appearances, this one is definitely not edible, so to take care of it, make sure it's getting plenty of light, including a good few hours of direct sun, and let the soil dry between waters - and don't eat it... or tell any children that jelly beans grow on trees.

Scientific Name
Sedum x rubrotinctum (sitting plant, hybrid with red-dyed leaves)

Synonyms: S. pachyphyllum × S. stahlii (hybrid formula)

This plant is a hybrid between the species Sedum pachyphyllum and Sedum stahlii, bred in cultivation

Common Name
Jelly Bean Plant, Pink Jelly Beans, Pork and Beans Sedum

Origin
This hybrid was bred in cultivation, but the parent plants are both native to Southwest Mexico; S. stahlii has a slightly larger range, including the Gulf region of Mexico.

Light
Bright light will help to keep the jelly beans rose-tinted. A few hours of direct sun will help keep them looking flash, and growing well too.

Water
Let the soil totally dry between waters; when it's thirsty, you;'ll be able to see the leaves starting to wrinkle.

Humidity
Avoid anywhere excessively damp; these plants are adapted to arid environments.

Soil
A well-draining soil is needed. Look out for specific cactus / succulent soils, which usually have plenty of sand and grit, for best results. Repot every few years as the plant grows.

Food
Feed lightly in spring and summer with a diluted cactus fertiliser every couple of months; feeding isn't necessary over autumn and winter.

Temperature
Prefers warm temperatures between 15-27°C. This species needs protection from frost; temperatures below 5°C can damage it.

Pet-safe
No; this sedum is mildly toxic, and can cause mild symptoms like vomiting and diarrhoea.

Sprouts Top Tips
Take care when moving this plants, as the leaves fall off quite easily. They are easy to propagate into new plants if they do fall, though, so don't despair!

Different mounting mechanism than photos
Color: Light Brown, Size: 4, Color: Light Brown, Size: 4
I'm going to start off this review by stating that the mounting mechanism used on the Shelf is different than the one shown in the photo. In the photo, it shows a single bar which would have made the Shelf easier to level however, the product I received has two separate bars which means I have to be extra careful holding a level against the paper. Stencil. The reason I chose this product over different listings was because for a dollar or two more its photo showed a single bar. Now for the pros and cons: Pros: Accurate measurement. Shelf appears to be actual wood! The photos made it looks like a veneer, which it is not. Easy to install. Includes good instructions. Seems like it can hold items fairly well. Cons: The mounting hardware for drywall pretty flimsy, and I stripped out some of the drywall anchors during install. They still worked, but it was annoying to finish inserting them. The shelf doesn't sit fully flush to the wall from factory as the screws included make it protrude slightly. I can fix this with my dremel, However, This could have been solved from the factory by making the cavity slightly deeper. As mentioned above in my main detractor, it is a two bar mounting system rather than a one bar, which was shown in the photo.

Pleased overall
Color: Light Brown, Size: 4
They have an unfinished feel, and the underside screws used to hold the shelf on the poles strip out really easy. Tighten those by hand and with care. Other than that, they look great and were easy to install. Came with a full set of hardware including anchors for various wall types. Stable enough to hold small to medium sized Lego sets (don't try to put Lego Hogwarts size kits on them--not big enough). Bought 3 sets of 4 and used others as Book shelves. They work very well for novel size or paperback sized books. Just make sure you anchor them well into the wall. These will only be as good as the installation.

Nice and Inexpensive!
Color: Light Brown, Size: 4, Color: Light Brown, Size: 4
Thé shelves are good quality and easy to hang. Thé instructions do leave a bit to be desired as they misidentify which anchor to use for dry wall. I followed instructions for the first shelf and it was not very stable. I switched to the other anchors and it was great. All hardware in included. These require minimum size holes in your wall, but it is a floating shelf so be prepared to patch when you take them down.  It’s a set of 4 so a good value!
